Release Music Properly
Before you even think about releasing your music, here are some important things to keep in mind:
(1) Plan ahead & be patient!
You finish your song, and now you have the sudden urge to just POST IT! You need to fight that urge. You're not Kanye or T-Swift... You can't just drop a song or album cold and expect it to blow up. You need to spend significant time planning and preparing before you release. Build some hype... Get people talking. Build anticipation for your release, and drop your song at the perfect time to maximize its reach! If you release music without preparing, expect it to flop. If you prepare ahead of time, you will reap the benefits.
(2) Submit releases at least 30 days in advance.
Well, this should help with your patience, right? I recommend submitting music to online distributors at least 30 days in advance to guarantee that your songs go live on the release date. It doesn't matter who is releasing your music or how early they say you need to submit it. The last thing you want is to plan a release date, tell everyone about it, then have to push it back because of delays in online stores. Better to be safe than sorry!
Releasing 30 days in advance will also allow you to log in to your Spotify for Artists account and submit your song to Spotify curators for playlist consideration! Do this.
See next section to learn how to actually submit your music to stores like iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and more!
